I’ve read this book quite a few times now, and I still find I can’t put it down. It’s a wonderful read. The only criticism I would have is that the end is a bit of an anticlimax, but it’s one of those books where the journey is the real treat.
It’s a sort of vampire travelogue! This is a wonderful journey through history, through Istanbul, Bulgaria, Hungary. The descriptions of the various cities and countries really make you want to visit them.
Apparently there’s a film in the works, although I can’t quite see how that would work, since it’s as much about libraries and archives, academic and research, and the joy of travel, as it is about Dracula, but eh, who knows?
